Social intervention in Molenbeek
The volunteer wishes to develop a social project with the
help of her current employer, a social restaurant "Snijboontje" in a
deprived area of Brussels with a strong presence of North-African
immigrants. The volunteer did her EVS in Brussels in an international
environmental organisation. During her stay she got to know the European
nature of Brussels and wishes now to make the socially excluded young people
in Molenbeek "rediscover" their own town and with this break their
isolation. She wants to give them practical guidance in finding their way in
Europe, making them aware of the opportunities offered to them by different
European youth programmes. |

EVS News
The two volunteers would like to start a newspaper for both
Flemish volunteers abroad and foreign volunteers in Flanders (as well as
their respective hosting and sending organisations), to keep them informed
of what is happening with the programme. Their aim is to share good
practices and experiences as well as reinforce the links between the
different actors involved in EVS, and make them really work in a network.
The newsletter will include statements written by the volunteers doing the
programme, as well as articles of general interest on volunteering. |

Employment Service for Agronomy engineers
and students
The volunteer wishes to develop the employment services of
his previous university. At present the AIALv, (Association des anciens
ingιnieurs agronomes de Louvain), does not have neither a part-time nor a
full-time person to provide students and graduates with information about
training and job opportunities. However, this volunteer learned about EVS
trough this association and he believes that providing a full-time service
to the "clients" of the association would be very important not only to
promote EVS but also to transform this service into a real path to
employment for young students and graduates. He would like to create a
web-site with information on jobs, collect relevant information and give
advice to potential "clients" looking for engineering jobs. He has the
support of the AIALv to develop this project. |

Video Workshop - bringing social issues to
schools through video
The volunteer wishes to develop, together with his own youth
association, a number of video training sessions for young people for the
creation of documentaries and fiction work relevant to young people. The
result of these video sessions will later on be shown in different primary
and secondary schools in France. Most of the topics will be related to young
people’s integration difficulties in an urban environment. The volunteer has
the support of his sending project to put the project into place. |

Green Lessons to young people
The volunteer wishes to raise public awareness for the
importance of protecting our environment. He intends to this in primary and
secondary schools and other local youth and community associations. He hopes
to promote a number of activities that can make people look at the
environment with more care and respect, becoming true "eco-citizens". During
his EVS in Belgium he developed a number of activities on ecological issues
for the young foreigners staying at his youth centre. He is now working for
a local municipality has "Animateur Nature". The volunteer would use Future
Capital as a complement to the activities that he is carrying in his
municipality responsible for providing the framework for the ecological work
whereas the volunteer wishes to add to it the "youth element". To accomplish
this the volunteer would like to follow a course of "Animateur Jeunesse" to
be able to develop better his work with young people on ecological matters.
He would also need special pedagogical materials directed at young people. |

House of Bulgaria in France
The volunteer wishes to create a database on Internet
containing information about this particular country where she has done her
EVS. This database would be available for consultation for all those who
would like to know more about Bulgaria (people in general but also
enterprises wishing to start doing business in Bulgaria). This idea came to
the volunteer after her EVS in a Bulgarian hosting project working on rural
tourism that would like to attract more French clients to their facilities.
Together with the Internet connection the volunteer wishes to set up a small
office space for documentation and reception of people, to facilitate the
links between France and Bulgaria. |

on community theatre activities (one of the main activities of her previous
hosting project). She will develop a research on the "Diskotheater

theatrical performances from young people in Berlin. This volunteer was the
author of the "Lettre ΰ Ulrich" (a small book of poems, inspired by her EVS
experience in Germany). |

"Berlin, Berlin, Berlin, No place I’d rather be, Where
else can I do 1000 things, And be home for tea?"
These two volunteers wish to write a book, a sort of city
guide, for young foreigners coming to live in Berlin for a while, giving
them practical, historical and cultural information. They want the guide to
be quite different from a normal tourist guide, made instead for people who
will live in Berlin and would therefore like to know the city from an
insider’s perspective, avoiding the cultural stereotypes and touristy
circuits. |

Intercultural learning through Cooking and Art
The volunteer will be giving art lessons to multicultural
groups of children. He will start his project in Greece in his previous
hosting organisation with local children. He will later on go back to
Germany and will try creating a cooking-book with tastes and smells,
representing all the countries of the children participating in his project.
His aim is to help children realise how important their cultural heritage
is, and at the same time make them share their cultures. He wants to promote
intercultural learning by the use of artistic expression and cooking, making
it fun and interactive. |

Assistance to young disabled people
The volunteer wishes to work as a professional carer in her
hosting project in Italy, in which she learned how to work with disabled
young people. The volunteer is physically handicapped herself and having
participated in EVS was fundamental in the development of her sense of
autonomy and independence, something she now wishes to give back. She will
also follow a training course to become certified as a professional carer,
something that only in Italy she was allowed to do, since in Germany she did
not have enough qualifications for that. |

the trainees of the Clare Youth Centre in Ennis (her hosting project). She
did a similar workshop while on EVS but she says that most of the goals were
not achieved. She thinks that the money from Future Capital will give her
more means to do a good job. She is planning to follow a course in
photography to improve her own competencies (outside the Future Capital
budget). At the end of the workshop, during which she will take the trainees
to different parts of Ireland, an exhibition of the results is foreseen. Her
trainees will be mainly young people from a disadvantaged background. |

Ireland, to bring a number of artistic workshops (painting, photography,
etc.) to young people leaving drug addiction. She will be developing this in
her previous hosting project though this time with the help of a
professional artist, who has the same vision as her of art and its use in
drug rehabilitation. She hopes to arrange 2-3 workshops per week with
different people and she hopes that with the resources provided by Future
Capital, the group will also achieve better results. These results will be
posted weekly in the project’s web-site and an exhibition of the
participants’ work will be organised in the Rehabilitation Centre. |

and he wishes now to do it in his region where no studies have been made so

The volunteer wishes to travel to several cultural youth
centres (part of the Trans-Europe-Halles network that co-ordinated her EVS
project) and take several pictures of their porters (the people who
supervise the different centres’ entrance policy and physical wellbeing).
She is a professional photographer and during her EVS programme in Austria
she had already developed a similar project, via a group of portraits of
Austrian porters. This series was shown in Austria and the Netherlands and
it was a huge success. Her aim is to show how those who work in different
youth centres represent different cultural identities and at the same time
cultural unity. She hopes that by showing porters from the Netherlands,
Austria, Italy, Slovenia, UK and Belgium she will be able to show what keeps
Europe together and what makes it different. In the end she wishes to
organise a photo exhibition in all of the participating centres. Her
Flagship network co-ordinator is supporting this project. |
