Belarus - Obtaining a visa

Note: the source of this information is the Belarus Embassy in the United States. Keep in mind that there might be some changes in the conditions and the prices if you want to get your visa in a European Country. Eurotool will add this information as soon as possible.

To obtain a visa you need to bring the following documents to the Consular Section of the Embassy:

  •  Your valid original passport (containing at least one blank page available for the visa) or "Permit for Reentry" or "Refugee Travel Document".

  •  A completed visa application form of the Embassy.

  •  One professional passport size photograph (color or black-and-white).

  •  If you apply by mail, a completely-addressed stamped return envelope or prepaid waybill (Express Mail, UPS or Airborne), bearing your postal account number and showing yourself as both shipper and recipient regardless of delivery address. Waybills marked "bill sender" or "bill credit card" will not be accepted. If you fail to follow the above mentioned requirements, your visa application will not be processed.

  •  A money order or a cashier's check for visa processing issued to the Embassy of Belarus. Normally visas are issued in 5 business days. In this case the visa processing fees are (effective December 9, 2002, USA):

100$ for single-entry visa;
200$ for double-entry visa;
300$ for triple-entry visa;
350$ for multiple-entry.

There is also a possibility to get a visa the next business day. In this case the visa processing fees are (effective December 13, 2002):

180$ for single-entry visa;
380$ for double-entry visa;
580$ for triple-entry visa.

The total fee for visas issued to children under 16 years old is 100$.

  •  A letter of invitation. All applications for a Belarusian entry visa must be accompanied by an invitation (type and form of invitation depends on the type of visa requested).

    • For a business visa
      A letter of invitation from an agency, company or organization in the Republic of Belarus, which is registered as a legal entity by the Belarusian authorities. A letter of invitation that may be faxed to you should be made on an official letterhead and should have a signature of the head of a company as well as a corporate seal. It should also contain an indication about the period of your expected stay in Belarus. A company has to pledge to provide to the invited person full support during his stay in Belarus including all possible medical expenses. Multiple-entry business visa requires confirmation from the MFA of Belarus.

    • Tourist visa
      A copy of the tourist voucher and a copy of the confirmation from Belarusian hosting tourist organization. Hosting organization should be registered as a tourist company by the Belarusian authorities. This registration number should be indicated in the confirmation.

    • Visas for private visits
      An original invitation (not a copy). Your relatives or friends should obtain invitation (“zaprashenne”) for you at the local passport and visa office of the Ministry of Interior and send it to you. In case of emergency (unexpected illness, death of the relative, etc.) visas can be issued upon submitting a certified cable from a doctor or a clinic in Belarus.

    • Transit visa
      A visa (or copy) for the country you are traveling from/to via Belarus. In case of traveling to countries with no entry visa requirements - copy of the ticket, itinerary from your travel agency or any other document confirming your trip to the appropriate country. NOTE: Effective May 1st, 2000, transit visas will be required for all travelers heading to Russia or other New Independent States via Belarus (even if the traveler has valid Russian visa or visa of other NIS state).

 After arriving to Belarus please report information about the address and duration of your stay to the local passport and visa office.

 Effective October 1st, 2000, medical insurance will be required for all foreign citizens traveling to the Republic of Belarus.
